So far, the reefscaping projects have been mostly happening at resorts. The main aim pursued by the resort management are conservation of their reefs, especially when these are submitted to construction impacts. This impact mitigation measure is welcome by the Ministry of Housing, Transport and Environment, which recognizes that the some loss of coral is inevitable, be it only to allow access to the islands.

In addition, the projects have a recreational value, as they are easily accessible by snorkelers, and are used by the marine biologists at the resort to provide information on the reefs. Recreational activities, such as diving and snorkeling are often pointed at by conservationists as a hindrance to coral recovery and growth. In fact, many of the coral trays are accidentally being broken by snorkelers, but we do our best to try and transplant these broken fragments. This reduces the recreational pressure on natural reefs.

Moreover, this technique is also employed to improve the aesthetics and create unexpected features in strategic areas, such as the over-water spas, near water villas or along the different jetties.

It is expected that such efforts also benefit the natural reef by increasing the number of planulae during the mass spawning of corals happening only a few times in the year.
