       The equilibrium of the Maldivian coral reefs is jeopardized by adverse effects triggered by economic development. The local development did not really take place until less than 40 years ago, but some say the Maldives are already doomed by global warming. In addition, export of marine products and a boom of the local and tourist consumption is increasing anthropogenic pressure on this natural resource beyond sustainability. The main threats are:
